Work Session information about 96th & Lee

Updated: Oct 24

The Governing Body of the City of Leawood will be having a series of Work Sessions over the next few months regarding the future use of the City-owned site at 96th & Lee Boulevard. The site is currently the home of the new Fire Station 1, the old City Hall, and the original Fire Station 1 facilities. The site also includes a community garden plot.

The first Work Session will be held on Monday, October 21, at 5:30 pm at Fire Station 1. That meeting will consist of a tour of the original Fire Station and old City Hall, background information and a presentation of the results of the survey conducted with residents.

The second Work Session will be held on Monday, November 4, at 5:30 pm at City Hall. That meeting will be an opportunity for the individuals and groups that have specific proposals to provide presentations to the Governing Body. Presenters include: Councilmember Debra Filla, the Penns, the Leawood Historic Commission, and the Parks, Recreation and Cultural Arts Department. The third Work Session will be held on Monday, December 2, at 6:00 pm at City Hall. That meeting will be an opportunity for the Governing Body to discuss the materials and issues presented to date about the site.

For all of these Work Sessions, materials for the meeting will be available on the City’s website on Friday prior to the meeting date. No formal decisions will be made at the Work Session meetings and no public comment will be taken. The meetings are open to the public and a remote option via Zoom will be available for the meetings, with the exception of the tour portion of the October 21 meeting. Importantly, it is envisioned that there will be additional engagement with the neighborhood on this topic after the first of the year. You can sign up for automatic notification of Work Sessions and other Governing Body meetings on the website at www.leawood.org.
